A recent article on Forbes.com states, “COVID-19 has massively accelerated the growth of e-commerce, according to an Adobe report released today. Total online spending in May hit $82.5 billion, up 77% year-over-year.”

This trend is extremely important. In fact, it is something businesses should be aware of when making business decision in the future.

However, it’s not the trend that I want to point out. Instead the focus of this post is the source of the data—Adobe’s Digital Economy Index.

If you are looking for data to fuel your content, this report delivers. And, currently this report is available on Adobe’s website for free!

About the Adobe Digital Economy Index

The Adobe Digital Economy Index (DEI) was introduced at the Adobe Summit 2020 and in a March 31st blog post on the Adobe Blog.

The DEI highlights some interesting trends similar to the one mentioned in the article on Forbes.com that was cited earlier.

For example, the May 2020 version highlights the fact that the “share of products purchased through smartphones increased by 10% in May compared to January” and “new consumers who are shopping online for the first time are doing so from their smartphones.”

It also points out trends regarding buying online and picking up in store (BOPIS).

According to the report, “BOPIS orders maintained a YoY growth of 195% in May, leveling off after the sharp upward trajectory seen in March and early April.”

“We’ll likely see this growth draw down further as stores re-open,” the report continues.

Among other things, the report also covers online price trends of groceries and computers.

Furthermore, it reports the digital purchasing power (DPP) by country.

Fuel for Your Content Marketing Efforts

As the May 2020 version of the DEI points out, the data they provide is useful for consumers, companies, leading thinkers and institutions, and policy makers.

While Adobe highlights how the DEI can help these groups directly, it can also help your business by giving you some very interesting and reliable trend data that can be used in your content marketing efforts.

I am sure we will see the DEI cited in many more articles and blog posts as businesses become aware of its existence.

This is a source of data that your business should keep an eye on.

Because it is being published by Adobe, we know it is a source that can be trusted.

And the best part is that as of right now you can download the report for free!
